Statement

This is an academic painting. My source and inspiration came from an 1989 Smithsonian article by James Treft entitled "Galaxies", which I had clipped and saved (and still have). The photograph I worked from, by Michael Freeman, was included in the article to illustrate the 'bubble theory' of galaxies, which was developed at the Havard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics.
