Pomegranite
- 2000
- graphite on paper
- approx. 3 ½ inches square
Statement
I created this by request for a friend's wedding announcements. As noted in their program, the pomegranite is a symbol of fertility in Chinese, Greek, Persian, Roman and Hebrew lore, and is a Christian symbol of hope. Images of pomegranites in gold and crimson decorated the robe of the high priest Aaron (Exodus 39) and the pillars of the Temple. In classical mythology, Persephone was bound to Hades because she ate six seeds of a pomegranite, one for each month of the dark part of the year.
